Staying Competitive: Beatbox Music’s AI-Powered Search Upgrade

The story

Beatbox Music engaged us to leverage our market leading AI expertise to stay competitive and achieve feature parity with competitors who had already implemented advanced AI search tools. Being a market challenger, Beatbox needed to maintain a cutting-edge user experience and ensure their search capabilities met the evolving demands of their users.

The challenge

The client’s data infrastructure was being hosted on a single EC2 instance, which frequently became overloaded. This led to significant performance issues, including slow page load speeds, instability and frequent crashes during peak user traffic.

The client also wanted to integrate AIMS AI with Beatbox to enhance music search capabilities. The project involved three key features: search based on existing Beatbox tracks, search via Spotify, YouTube, and TikTok URLs, and search by audio file upload. Additionally, we needed to ensure AIMS data remained up-to-date by automatically adding, deleting, and updating tracks.

Users found it difficult to find tracks similar to what they were currently listening to or music they may have heard elsewhere. Beatbox needed to keep up with competitors who had already integrated AI for track search and wanted to add new features that would put them ahead of the competition in the future. 

The solution

Working closely with the client we work-shopped a 3 part solution to this project:

  1. Migrate site to separate AWS services to improve site reliability [Cloudcraft]
  2. Rewrite a large part of the back-end to upload/download/convert all tracks using S3 buckets
  3. Integrate the Beatbox website with AIMS (the easy part)

Firstly, to address the site instability challenges, we successfully migrated each component of the site’s infrastructure to dedicated AWS services [Cloudcraft]. Additionally, we rewrote a large part of the backend to efficiently manage the upload, download, and conversion of all tracks using S3 buckets. This strategic upgrade significantly enhanced the site’s performance and stability.

Next, we integrated the AIMS API with Beatbox’s existing system, enhancing search capabilities through AI. The enhanced search capabilities improved the accuracy and relevance of music search results, making it easier for users to find specific tracks and discover new music. 

We added a ‘FindAlike’ button to each track, which integrates with AIMS to find similar tracks within Beatbox’s music catalogue. Additionally, when users paste a URL from platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Apple Music, or Spotify into the search bar. We query AIMS to find similar tracks within Beatbox’s music catalogue (Link Search).

Lastly, we used PHP and curl to integrate AIMS APIs within Beatbox’s existing Laravel website, while Laravel’s Scheduler and Observers ensure the Beatbox site is kept in sync with AIMS.

This intelligent search system offered a more intuitive and efficient user experience, reducing the time and effort required to locate desired music.

The result

AI-powered Intelligent Music Search significantly enhanced Beatbox Music’s search capabilities, making it easier for users to find the right music quickly. 

The improved user experience and advanced search features position Beatbox ahead of its competitors, offering unique and efficient ways for users to discover new music. The solution’s performance metrics are currently being tracked and are delivering excellent, more user friendly results for Beatbox’s customers.
